This celebration, the first in a series that continues through April 2023, commemorates the 100th anniversary of the establishment of the Allen E. Cole Photography Studio in Cleveland's Fairfax community. A portion of the proceeds from ticket sales will benefit Western Reserve Historical Society (African American Initiatives) and the Greater Cleveland Association of Black Journalists

 

The cost for this 1920s-themed event includes:

  • Admission to "Partnerships, Portraits, and the Power of Photojournalism: Black History According to Allen E. and Frances T. Cole," and all other exhibits
  • Live jazz performed by Gabriel's Horns
  • Heavy hors d'oeuvres
  • Soft beverages
  • Cash bar (beer and wine)
  • Personalized photographs by L & L Photography
  • An autographed copy of Through the Lens of Allen E. Cole: A Photographic History of African Americans in Cleveland, Ohio 
  • Author talk featuring Samuel W. Black
  • Discounted on-site parking


Tentative Schedule:

5: 00 PM: Cole exhibit officially opens

5:00 PM - 8:00 PM: Heavy hors d'oeuvres, soft beverages, cash bar, and museum exhibits open

5:00 PM - 5:30 PM: "Meet-the-Authors" / Book signing

5:30 PM - 6:00 PM: Book talk by Samuel W. Black, Director of African American Programs, Heinz History Center, Pittsburgh

6:00 PM - 6:45 PM: Jazz performance by Gabriel's Horns

6:45 PM - 7:15 PM: GCLEABJ Awards Program Honoring Black Photojournalists

7:15 PM - 8:00 PM: Jazz performance by Gabriel's Horns

8:00 PM: Museum closes
